The French colt Relko. starting 5 to 1 favourite, won the 184th Derby Stakes this afternoon, outclassing the field of 25 opponents. Ridden by the ace French jockey. Yves Saint-Martin. Relko became the sixth French! horse since the war to win the I blue riband of the British turf. The bay colt, always among the first half-dozen, took the! lead after swinging round Tat-1 tenham Corner, winning easily > by six lengths. The English colt Merchant; Venturer (18/1) was second and | tlie Irish coit Ragusa (25 1) was: further away third. Huliabaloon was left and took I no part As they swung round Tattenham comer with four furlongs to run. Iron Peg held a narrow lead from Tarqogan. Tarqogan, from Ireland, shot to the front on reaching the straight and held his lead until about two furlongs out where they reached the rising ground. The French favourite, beautifully handled by Saint-Martin, then'went into the lead and it was all over.
