First Start In Australia

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE. May 30 Ilbint. a member of T. R Howe’s team from New Zealand, made a brilliant winning debut in Australia yesterday. Ridden by L. K. Tinsley, this two-year-old won the Flinders Handicap, six furlongs, at Mornington. 40 miles south of Melbourne.

Ilbint (9/4> beat a recent Moonee Valley winner. Smiling Lass (5/4. favourite) bv eight lengths.

ilbint will probably have her first city start in Australia at Flemington on June 10. According to the Melbourne “Sun” writer. Peter Lovitt, the stable bet a lot of its Ilbint winnings on the ’’stylish looking" Teneriffe (7/2) in the main flat race, the Westernport Handicap. But Teneriffe. ridden bv Tinsley. was outstayed by Kayden (4/1). which beat the New Zealand gelding bv three lengths. ■

Howe brought Teneriffe to Victoria for the EA4OOO Grand National Hurdle (three miles) Immediately after Teneriffe s run, bookmakers betting on the Grand National double at Flemington on June 6 and 13 made him equal favourite with Coltara in the Grand National Hurdle. Tinsley had more bad luck in the Welter Handicap, division one. when he rode As Ordered, another member of Howe's team, into second place. As Ordered. 4/5 favourite, was reckoned the bet of the day. However, he weakened in the straight after leadjng from the start, saving bookmakers another big payout.

Drysdale Sun (12/1) came through to take first place.
