Combined Orange Ball

Bowls of bright chrysanthemums decorated the Winter Garden last evening for the combined Orange Lodge ball. More than 150 people attended the ball. Guests welcomed by the president of the ball committee (Miss B. Chatterton) and her partner (Mr C. Williams) included the Grand Master of the lodge in New Zealand (Mr W. C. James) and Mrs James, the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning) and Mrs Manning, and the Christchurch district superintendent of the lodge (Mrs O. E. Anderson) and Mr Anderson Members of the committee who organised the ball were: Miss B. Chatterton (president), Miss F. Chatterton (secretary), Messrs A. Still, jun., and M. Bannan. Mrs James wore a gown of blue and lime brocade with a softly pleated skirt falling from a fitting bodice finished with a shawl collar.

Mrs Anderson wore a gown of black brocade with silver tinsel features. The frock had a gored skirt and a crossover bodice. Miss B. Chatterton chose a gown of jade green satin with a fitting bodice and a bell skirt decorated with Dior roses and leaves.
