Baton Change By Mayor The relay runners on the Invercargill -to - Wellington route of the Boys’ Brigade eightieth anniversary relay run will be passing through Christchurch about 4.30 p.m. on May 24. There will be a ceremonial changeover of the silver baton by the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning) at the memorial near the Barbadoes street bridge. Oxford terrace, at 4.30 pm. The baton will be carried by a Queen’s Badge holder escorted by t-’o senior boys, and each trio will have a distance of three miles to carry the baton before it is handed on to the next set of runners. While in the city limits, the Traffic Department will provide an escort for the runners. The relay will finish in Lyttelton at 7 pm., when the baton will be handed to the captain of the interisland ferry steamer. He will take it to Welington, where he will hand it over to the Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson) to start the final lap. Sergeants J. F. Stanton. M. MacPherson (23rd Christchurch Company), and J. Jamieson (28th Christchurch Company) will be the Canterbury Battalion representatives in the Governor-Gen-eral’s guard of honour in Wellington. The baton will contain a message of loyalty to the Queen, which will be sent to her by the Governor-Gen-eral.
