Hockey ADVISORY SELECTORS
Functions Defined
The functions of the advisory hockey selectors appointed to assist the sole New Zealand hockey selector (Mr E. G. McLeod I and that of Mr R. Randle, an advisory selector and coach of the New Zealand team, was defined at a meeting of the management committee of the New Zealand HockeyAssociation last evening. The matter was raised by Mr McLeod in a letter to the committee in which he asked that the matter should be clarified. It was discussed in committee, but at the suggestion of Mr A. D. Holland it was decided to publish the following letter to be sent to Mr McLeod and to the advisory selectors. "Whilst we wish in no way to interfere with the selection of the team and. of course, confirm that the responsibility of the selection of the team in the end must entirely be vours, nevertheless. Mr Randle will be responsible for the tactics of the team once selected.
"Because of this, we consider that Mr Randle should be entitled to express his views to you concerning selection, irrespective of the area in which he or the players are located.
"The advisory selectors have been appointed to assist you as sole selector ... tn order to keep matters tn proportion the advisory selectors were requested to keep essentially to their own area. . .
Mr Holland said that the position of Mr Randle should be the main one to be defined. He was an advisory selector covering his own area but. as coach, ne should be able to comment on players in other provinces.
