Ice Hockey HAWKS WIN HARD GAME

Some of the fastest and hardest hockey of the season was seen at the Indoor ice rink when Hawks beat Rangers by 6 goals to 5 in a Christchurch Cup match played last night. The ice was in perfect condition. fast and wet. and both sides made the most of it with good, crisp passing movements. Hawks had the best of the first period and slammed in three goals from perfectly executed passing rushes. Play was harder in the later periods and a number of players from both sides were sent to the penalty bench for slashing. tripping and illegal body checking. Both goalkeepers had a torrid time throughout the match but the honours went to the Rangers’ keeper, Len Smith. Scorers were:—Hawks; M. Wick 2. G. Bainton 2. N. Hole 1. B O’Connor 1 Rangers; G Hitchcock 4, Hawks goalie 1. The teams were:— Rangers—L. Smith (goal). B Adamson A. McDonald. J. Hanning. S. Pluck, R. Cooper, D Fisher. M. Cotter (captain). T. Stapleton. R. Atkinson. T Brizzell. G. Hitchcock.
