APARTHEID PROTEST

M.P. Wants To Stop Tour (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SYDNEY, May 10. “When South Africa can learn to separate its politics from its sport, I and others who think like myself, will be glad to welcome a team from that country.” a Labour member of the New South Wales Parliament, Mr W. M Rigby, said yesterday. Mr Rigby, who said he intended to ask the Australian Cricket Board of Control to cancel a tour of Australia by a South African team next summer, claimed to have the support of fellow-politicians. They would protest against South Africa’s “brutal treatment” of African natives. “The South African team will be coming here as representatives of a community which has ruthlessly condoned and participated in the oppression of coloured people. “We can depend upon it that the team will include no coloured members—for political. not sporting, reasons.” Mr Rigby said.
