Space Tracking Station
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter — Copyright) LONDON, May 11. A group of Australian subsidiaries of the Hawker Siddeley group, Elliott, Automation and Associated Electrical Industries, will operate a deep space tracking station at Tidbinbilla, near Canberra, it was announced by a Hawker Siddeley spokesman yesterday. The station is part of a world-wide deep space instrumentation system being built for the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration, for lunar and planetary exploration. Under a three-year contract being awarded by the Australian Department of Supply, the group will be responsible for operation and maintenance of the Canberra station—a companion station to that at Woomera. The member companies of the consortium are Hawker de Havilland, Australia (Proprietary), Ltd., Australian Electrical Industries (Proprietary), and Elliott-Auto-mation (Proprietary), Ltd.
