FALSEHOOD’S COUGH
Recovery May Be Delayed (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) NEW YORK, May 11. The New Zealand pacer Falsehood would be out of racing for three weeks, the Associated Press reported today. The horse was wittidrtfwn from the Good Time Pace at Yonkers Raceway, New York, on Thursday when he developed a virus complaint. Irish Napoleon, which was also withdrawn, would not race for three weeks, said Associated Press. The “New York Times.” however, imported that Falsehood had been in seclusion since the first signs of a cough and was expected to resume training on Monday. Falsehood was making a quick recovery and was expected to be ready to race again in time to take his place in the National Championship Pace over two miles at the raceway on Thursday night (May 16> said the "Times.” The State Harness Racing Commission last night took steps to maintain racing at Yonkers in the face of a virus that has been sweeping the harness world, said Associated Press. Eligibility rules for substitutes were changed so that horses could be brought in to keep up the size of fields. Veterinary examinations will be given all horses before and after warm-ups, the time when most cases of virus are found.
When Second At Yonkers (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) YONKERS (New York), May 12. The New Zealand trotter When came home second a length and a half behind the winner, Orbiter, in the 25.000 dollar Feature Handicap at Yonkers Raceway last night. United Press International reported. Orbiter, the 2/5 odds-on favourite, led from start to finish. Great Lullwater was third and Merrie Duke fourth in the four-horse field. Because of late scratchings only win and place betting was allowed. Orbiter trotted the mile and a quarter in 2min 38 4-ssec. hi Wilmington, Delaware, the 12-year-dd New Zealand mare. Ordeal, was third to Lord Gordon and Sabelo in the 7500-dollar Invitation Trot at Brandywine Raceway.
