Peerswick Was Too Good In Stakes

Peerswick made amends for two rather dismal showings at the recent Hutt Park meeting when he outclassed his rivals in the Oamaru Juvenile Stakes on Saturday. He took the lead at the end of three furlongs and, from then on, was -master of the situation. Faistaff raced right up tb his best to shade Meadowmac for second. Peerswick’s win was too decisive for many excuses to be offered for the beaten horses. He is entitled to be the top-ranked colt of the season and looks to have a bright future.

Raced by Messrs Henderson Bros., of West Melton. Peerswick is trained by J, D. Liitten. He is a small neat colt by Dignus from Superfortress. Dignus is also the sire of Faistaff, which, like Peerswick, has won three races this season. La Scala, Beresford Lady. Cathpete, Shain and Rocky Star were the slowest beginners. Faistaff led out from Super Chief and Peerswick, the last-named working clear at the end of three furlongs. He was followed through the straight by Kildare Kate, Faistaff, Lottery Song, Super Chief, Meadowmac (three wide), Wildwood Chief, Stephen Water. Lochie. BellajiUy, La Scala and Patchy. Meadowmac improved to be almost on terms with Peerswick racing to the straight, where Faistaff was next on the inside of Kildare Kate, with Super Chief, Stephen Water and Wildwood Chief w-ere prominent. Peerswick did hot look like being tested over the last furlong and won handily by a length and a half. Faistaff ran on slightly better than Meadowmac to beat that runner by a head for second. La Scala finished fast once properly in the clear and did well for fourth a neck away, with a similar margin to Cathpete, which came home strongly from a long way back. Kildare Kate was close up sixth, shading Wildwood Chief, Stephen Water and Super Chief, which was clear of Bellajily and Patchy. Overdue

Vivace, which had raced consistently well but without luck since winning at Greymouth early in January, gained an overdue win in the C. L. Ayson Handicap. She began well from 12 yards and for most of the race she was buried back on the inside in the middle of the field. Winsome Queen made the pace and led from home ahead of Radiant Storm, with Prince Garry, Dieman Lad, Stormcara and Vivace handiest of the others. Vivace came through on the

inner near the furlong and although hotly challenged by Dieman Lad, she fought on to beat that horse by a neck. Dieman Lad was well up throughout and he ran on in grand style. Stormcara, after being close up all the way, was only half a length back third, a neck in front of a solid finisher in Jilaire, Talent made up ground for fifth, ahead ot Maggie Spangler, . Prince Garry and Winsome Queen. The favourite. Squire, broke a hopple at the end of two furlongs and a half. Change Of Luck Aero Scott, which has not long been trained by N. L. Berkett, brought his new trainer a change of luck when he won the White City Handicap. He was slow away early and received a poor run in the middle stages. Then he was pushed almost off the course at the straight entrance where he was some distance from the leaders. Leyava and Fleeting Storm. Singaway. fifth into the straight, looked likely to win 50 yards out, but Aero Scott ran on determinedly to win by a neck. Blue Brigade made up a little ground for third a nose in front of Leyava, with Hydro Power, Fleeting Storm and Officious Piper next.

No Trumps enjoyed the run of the race behind Stolen Moments in the North Otago Handicap, a race in which most of the runners made mistakes. No Trumps was left clear at the furlong post and she ran on boldly to win by almost two lengths from Ardleigh with Jeanna third right up, clear of White World, which showed speed. Courtella, Castleton's Gift * and White Martial. Automatic overcame a slow start to get up in the last few strides and gain a narrow but impressive win in the Waitaki Handicap. Kelso Lady, after taking control near the half-mile, held on for second half a head behind the winner and a short neck in front of Forshy, which was never very far away. Seay Boy ran on slightly better than Society Girl to beat that runner for fourth, wtth Toll Booth. Willycan and Idle Man following.
