‘Public Should Demand Cut’ (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 12. Before the appearance of the Budget the public should demand cuts in Government spending, says a statement supplied by the Constitutional Society yesterday. The statement said Government spending was increasing at a “terrific rate.” Eight years ago, the figure was £337,000,000. but the 1962 Budget estimated expenditure would be £498.500.000—50 per cent. more. In the same period, the population increased only 12 per cent. The statement said: “If Government spending continues to rise at the rate which has been reasonably constant over the last 25 years, it will reach an astronomical figure by the turn at toe century. ’’
