Julius Boros, a former United States open champion, had a one-over-scratch 71 yesterday for a three-round total of 208 and a threestroke lead in the 60,000dollar Colonial national invitation golf tournament. Associated Press reported. D. Sanders was in second place with 211 and A. Lerna was third on 213. The New Zealand lefthander, R. J. Charles, who began the tournament with a disastrous 81. had a 71 on Friday and 75 yesterday, to be 19 strokes behind Boros. The defending champion. Arnold Palmer, was on 224, Jack Nicklaus 214 and Gary Player 216. W. J. Godfrey, of Auckland, failed to quality for the final round of the £4OOO Swallow Peofold professional tournament ait Ayr, Scotland, on Friday. Thirty-seven professionals and one amateur qualified with scores of 219 and better. Godfrey had a 54-hole total of 222, with rounds of 73, 73, 76.
