Canvass For Signatures An organised house-to-hcuse canvass of sections of Christchurch on Saturday resulted in about 2000 persons signing a petition launched bv the Christchurch committee of Bhe Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament The petition asks the Govtrrwnent to take steps to bring about a pact between all states having territory in the Southern Hemisphere to keep it free of nuclear weapons. On Saturday about 40 canvassers concentrated on blocks in South Christchurch. Bryndwr. St. Albans, Sumner and New Brighton which resulted in not less than 80 oer cent, and often 90 per cent of those approached signing the petition a member of the committee (Mrs Elsie Locke) said last pigrrt. Many people were eager to sign Most of them signed because of the dangers they foresaw in the prospective French nuclear test in the South Pacific.
