BOMB TEST PROTESTS
Strong Terms Wanted (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 12 More effective protests than those voiced by the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake), .against nuclear bomb testing are urged by Auckland post-primary teachers Two newspaper statements by Mr Holyoake were quoted by Mr J. R Kelly at the Auckland regional conference of the Post-primary Teachers’ Association at the week-end. It was’ the Government’s duty to make known the opinions of the people, said Mr Kelly. The Prime Minister’s statement seemed to indicate that the public had no opinion. Part of the remit passed said it was considered that the official protests so far reported had been so diplomatically tentative as to be quite ineffective. The remit expressed alarm at the enormous risk to the welfare of pupils in the forthcoming bomb testing in the Gambier Islams. Governmental assurance was sought that further immediate official protests in the strongest terms would . be made to the French Government.
