APPEAL OVER BENEFIT

Shooting Case Compensation (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 12. An appeal will be made to the Minister of Social Security (Mr McKay) on behalf of Mr H. Pettit who was injured in the shooting affray at Waitakere in January. Mr Pettit has suffered radial palsy of his injured arm and has been incapacitated He has been advised .that he cannot receive a •• Social Security benefit because compensation from a personal accident policy exceeds the amount of the benefit. Mr G. M. Bernard, an Auckland insurance assessor, said today he intended organising a relief fund for Mr *■ Pettit. He said he would also write to Mr McKay asking for an investigation into Mr Pettit’s position. Mr Bernard said he felt it was unjust that Mr Pettit should be deprived of Social Security benefit when he had been contributing toward the fund for five years.
