TROTTING Queen’s Cord Could Win Again At Oamaru Today
Queen’s Cord, which gained two wins and a fourth from three starts at the recent Wellington meeting, could win again in the Centennial Trotting Handicap, a feature race at the Oamaru Trotting Club’s North Otago centennial meeting today.
Queen’s Cord, a member of J. H. Docherty’s Kaikoura team, has improved considerably in recent months. She was most impressive when she won on the second night at Hutt Park. She opened up a big lead and won unchallenged by four lengths after taking 3min 17sec for the mile and a half.
Queen s Cord looks favourably placed on the front in this field and if she shows the same speed as she did at Hutt Park, site could be too fast for many of her rivals. Mighty Hanover did not have things his own way when he gained a narrow win in the New Zealand Hanvbletonian Handicap at Addington last month. He is obviously right back to his top form and should be capable of a bold showing in spite oi his awkward handicap of 24 yards. Flaming Way raced without luck at Addington where lie recorded two fourths and a ninth. He is racing particularly well at present and could easily upset calculations. The Dunlrocn - trained Hindu won imipressively at his two starts at Forbury Park last Saturday. He appears to be more solid now than earlier and he could be aided by the fact that he has drawn the outside of the horses on 12 yards. Hindu has great speed, but whether he will be solid enough for this field remains to be seen. Tracey’s Pal, a useful second to Queen’s Cord after giving her a start of 12 yards at Hutt Park at his most recent start, is trotting better than ever at present and he could be the pick of the other* on the front. Robert Medoro has not raced since February 2, but if he is forward enough he could take part in the finish. On his day he is one of the best trotters in commission. Front Linel Harbour Light, Spinster Scott, Our Own and Pohutukawa are other wellperformed trotters in the race. The on-course double will be run on the White City
Handicap and the Oamaru Juvenile Stakes. The T.A.B double will be run on the Centennial Pace and the R. A. McDowell Memorial Handicap. Fair weather is forecast and the track should be in good order. Acceptances:—
