Doubt About Designers
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND. May 10
Grave doub.s about the need to employ overseas experts to plan the permanent passenger terminal at Auckland international airport were expressed by Sir Keith Park at a meeting of the airport committee today. ' We have great skill among our engineers, architects and designers in New Zealand and we should use them." he said.
'We should begin detailed planning of she terminal next year, but whether we should bring in experts from the United States to my mind 13 in grave doubt." Mr C S. Passmore said the target date for finishing the permanent terminal was 1969. and it was necessary for the committee to keep the ball rolling now if the target was to be achieved
"The first thing we have to decide,” he said, "is whether we are going to employ the American consultant. Mr Leigh Fisher. We will have to negotiate with :he Civil Aviation Administration to see if it will meet half the cost.”
-The meeting agreed with a suggestion by Mr F. G. Turner that the matter be left in the hands of the planning and construction committee to report to the full committee.
