REFINERY DISPUTE

Manager Meets Unions (N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, May 9. The Federation of Labour will be asked to handle the dispute at Marsden Point on behalf of all the unions involved except the Electrical Workers’ Union, according to the project manager for the contractors, Bechtel-Fiet cherWimpey (Mr L. D Pitchford). He made the statement after meeting union representatives this morning. About 300 men attended the two-hour stopwork meeting to discuss the failure of Tuesday’s compulsory conference. Reporters were not admitted to the meeting and were told the men had decided no statement would be made.
