‘Nine Hours To Rama’

Sir,—The public are accustomed to advertisers insulting their intelligence. But when a film about Ghandi and his assassination is advertised simply as “a suspense-filled, powerful entertainment,” toleration of the standards of advertisers requires some self-restraint. Apparently the composer of this one felt that New Zealanders would not be interested in Ghandi and that it was best to try to sell the thing as a simple murder story. To carry it to a perfection of idiocy, the Indian who plays Ghandi so well is not even mentioned in the advertisement, but Robert Morley, who does a bit part, is given letters as large as Bucholz, who does the murderer.—Yours, etc., M.ARK D. SADLER. April 28, 1963. [The manager of the State Theatre (Mr L. G. Norman) had no comment to make.]
