Discharged By Chief Justice

(N.Z. Pres* Association) WELLINGTON, May 7. Patrick Francis McGrath, aged 22, a workman, who had been committed to the Supreme Court for trial on a charge of negligent driving causing death, was discharged by the Chief Justice (Sir Harold Barrowclough) at the opening today of the quarterly sessions of the Wellington Supreme Court. His Honour said ~he had considered 4he case and referred it to one of his brother judges. They agreed there was no evidence of negligence, although there was suspicion. He had decided to act under his authority under Section 347 of the Criminal Justice Act and discharge McGrath.
