TESTS BY FRANCE

“Talks With” Ambassador (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 7. Further information would be needed before he would make a statement on reports that the French Government was proposing nuclear tests in the Pacific, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said tonight. Mr Holyoake said his talks today with the French Ambassador, Mr L. A. Felix, carried the matter “somewhat further;” but he required further information from the New Zealand Embassy in Paris and the French Government. He said Mr Felix had been able to give him the thinking of the French Government at present. Today was the second time in five days that Mr Holyoake had discussed the proposed tests with the French Ambassador.
