Driver Escapes Injury The driver of a car which was caught by the descending traffic arm barrier on the R.ccarton road level crossing, then stalled on the railway line; and was hit by a 65-ton diesel locomotive last evening, escaped unhurt When the car stalled on the line, the driver wisely immediately abandoned it The diesel engine, pulling the Chriswurch-Picton pas-senger-goods express, hit the car amidship at 8.18 p.m. Tito c*r,#vas carried two chains and. a half on the front .if the engine as the train driver braked to a halt. The car was firmly wedged on the front of the train and it took 20 men to lift it off. It was extensively damaged.

The car was driven by Mr K. R. Richards, of 10 Hartley avenue. Police directed traffic at the crossing for more than an hour after the accident until the traffic lights and arm barrier at the crossing were put in working order again.
