Man Remanded For Report

DUNEDIN, May 2. Kevin William Edward Rackley, aged 31, a bakehouse workman, was remandeo until Monday pending a psychiatrist’s report and sentence when he appeared before Mr J. D. Willis, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court this morning and admitted attempted arson at Mosgiel on April 21. Inspector A. Hunt said the fire brigade was called to 31 Doon street.

A neighbour in Doon street had seen Rackley standing in a bedroom and the flicker of flames. Asked by the neighbour, Rackley said he had taken poison and was going to, burn the house down. Inspection of the house showed kerosene had been poured on the floor in the hall and bedrooms. Fourteen burnt wooden matches were also found. No damage was done to the building.
