SHIFT WORK BANNED

Court’s Ruling On Pilot Boat (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 2. The Arbitration Court has refused an application by the Auckland Harbour Board to put the crew of the pilot boat Aksrana on shift work. In a reserved decision, the Court says that the board’s proposal can be raised again when the Auckland aind New Zealand harbour board employees’ award is next under consideration.

Mr R. E. Dawson, for the harbour board, had told the court that if the pilot boat crew continued to work the present "excessive weekly hours” a "serious accident" could be caused. The union counter-claimed with the assertion that the actual daily hours worked by the crew during the last year had never been more than sevem.
