GALA OPENING OF OPERA
Prime Minister To Attend A gala opening tomorrow for “La Boheme” at the Majestic Theatre has been planned by the Christchurch executive of the New Zealand
Opera Company. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoeke), the Minister of Finance (Mr Lake), the Minister of Transport (Mr McAlpine), the Mayor (Mr G. Manning), and local members of Parliament will be among those welcomed to the first performance here by the chairman of the executive (Mr J. Cc Uins).
After the performance a supper party will be held at the theatre for the 300 members of the Christchurch branch of the society and members of the cast
The purpose of the function is to give members of the society an opportunity of meeting performers, among whom will be Maria Di Gerlando and Robert Williams, of the New York City Opera, Valerie Morgan, Ned Warren Smith, and George Tmtnar, of Australia, and Graeme Gorton, Lynne Caution, Paul Person, lan Morton, and Ramon Opie, of New Zealand.
