WOOD-CHOPPING “TEST” LOST

Australians Win By Two Blows

(NZJ’.A.-Reuter — Copyright) SYDNEY, April 16.

Australia narrowly beat New' Zealand last night in a thrilling wood-chopping “test,” watched by 30,000 people at Sydney’s Royal Easter Show. Australia won by two blows.

The contest was for the Hallstrom Cup and £A3OO in prize money. New Zealand won the cup in 1960 and 1961. Australia won last year.

Australian axemen conceded that the New Zealanders had a disadvantage because timber used in Australian competition wood-chop-ping was much harder than New Zealand wood.
