Motor Racing McLaren just DEFEATED

Behind Trophy Race Winner (NZ.P-A.-Reuter— Copyright) LONDON, April 16. The New Zealand racing driver, Bruce McLaren, was beaten by ssec in yesterday's 100-mile Glover Trophy race for formula one cars at Goodwood, Sussex. McLaren, in a Cooper-Coventry Climax, finished second to ’.he British driver Innes Ireland, in a Lotus-B.R.M. The race is considered the first significant pointer to the world title series which starts with the Grand Prix d'Europe in Monaco next month. Ireland covered the 42-lap course in 59min 2.4 sec. averaging 102.44 m.p.h. McLaren's time was 59min 7.4 sec. Tony Maggs, of South Africa, was third and Jack Brabham, of Australia, was sixth. The fastest lap was made by the world champion Graham Hi 11—104.85 mpJi.— who was denied a chance of victory by fuel injection trouble.
