Easter Brides Heckle Union Official

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright)

SYDNEY, April 14. Six Easter brides heckled a trade union official who asked a Brookvale hairdresser to close his salon yesterday. The hairdresser, Mr Paul Hanks, defied the law to set the hair of six clients who were married later in the day. When an official of the Hairdressers’ Union called on Mr Hanks, the brides were in curlers. He told Mr Hanks to close his salon—and received a chorus of jeers from the brides. “If you’re so hostile, why

don’t you take the day off yourself?” one called. The harassed official soon left. Mr Hanks said the official took notes, counted the number of people working and “generally made a nuisance of himself. “He made me mad in the finish so I just would not talk to him,” he said- “You can’t tell those fellows anything.” Mr Hanks hopes to avoid prosecution . under the new Factories Act because he said he did not charge the brides. The new act prohibits hairdressers opening on holidays
