Five Persons Killed In Road Accidents

WELLINGTON, April 14
Five persons were killed in Easter road accidents up to late last night, the transport Department reported.
Last vear six persons were killed in the same period and 10 over the entire holiday period.
The Transport Department reported heavy traffic in all districts today. Apart from isolated incidents, traffic behaviour generally was good. Heavy traffic is expected tomorrow. The Transport Department tonight appealed to motorists to drive with care and patience. Last year three died in road accidents on Easter Monday and 75 were injured Nearly all the accidents occurred between 5 p.m. and 7 p m. Youth Killed A youth was killed and several persons, all members of one family, were injured when a car fell about 300 feet from a road in the Whangape district about 1 p.m. today The youth kill.d was Raroa Leefe, aged 17. a farmhand. of Whangape.
Those injured are his father, Mr Tua Leefe. two brothers, Messrs Joseph and Lawrence Leefe. and a sister Mrs Diana Eva aged 21. The three men are in the Kaitaia Hospital suffering from shock and injuries Mrs Hoggard has been discharged.
Died from Injuries
An Auckland youth died today from injuries received in a motor accident on Saturday morning on the Rotorua- Whakatane highway, three miles north of Te Teko. He was: Patrick Joseph Gregan, aged 20, son of Mr and Mrs R. G. Gregan, 22 Rawalpindi street. Point Chevalier. Power-cyclist Hurt A power-cyclist was badly injured in a collision with a car at a Hastings intersection late on Saturday afternoon He is Gordon Noel Whittington, aged 42 a workman. His condition is reported to be critical. Car Overturned A 20-year-old youth was seriously injured about 130 a.m today when the car he w driving failed to negotiate a bend on the Palmerston North-Awahuri highway and went out of control He is Keith E Busby, of Palmerston North, who was admitted to the Palmerston North Hospital suffering from severe head injuries His condition tonight was serious Hit Parked Car A man was admitted to the Palmerston North Hospital at 8 8 p.m on Saturday after his car hit a parked car and crashed into a house He is Bernard James MeCcol. aged 43. of Whakarongo who suffered a fractured spine, suspected fractured ribs, and lacerations His condition tonight was satisfactory.
