Speedboat Racing N.Z. TITLE MEETING

Rain Causes

Postponement

Al'J events, including two New Zealand speed boat championships, which were to have been held by. the Lake Kaniere Yacht and Power-Boat Club at Lake Kaniene yesterday, had to be postponed because of steady ram throughout the day. However. the boats stayed at the hake, and the kilometre record attempt, the New Zealand 266 cu. in. inlx>aird. championship, and the New Zeadand D class championship will nou’ be held today. On Saturday, when the meeting opened, more than 50 speedboats competed for national and local honours. Three major championships were contested—the New Zealand 140 cu. in championship for V-bottomed inboard boats, the South Island 75 cu. in. hydro inboard championship, and tiie South Island C class outboard hydro championship. The New Zealand 140 cu. in. championship was the feature event of the day. There were six starters, including Wee Chips (C. J. Meharrj), from Auckland. At the half-mile mark. Atom XI (A. Johnson) led comfortably by 200 yards from Anita, Javelin, Salem, and Wee Chips, in that order. Atom XI was forced to withdraw as it entered the third lap with a broken water scoot. This left the way open to Javelin. Anita, and Salem, which finished first, second, and third respectively. All three boats are from the New Brighton Club Only five of the eight starters in the South Island 75 cu. in. hydro inboard championship finished the course, and the race proved rather disappointing. Vamoose was first, with Ace-Hi and Hi second and third. Missile, driven by K. Driver (Invercargill), showed a great turn of speed to win the South Island C class outboard hydro championship. Vulcan (G. White) was second and Mexico (D. Davies) was third.
