Easter Holidays

Sir, —At 10 ajn. on the Thursday before Easter it became necessary for me to send an urgent letter to Wellington. From a telephone inquiry at the Post Office it appeared that the letter could not be delivered until the Tuesday after Easter. Why not? My children will not be going to school on the same Tuesday, nor will university lectures be given. Solicitors are taking a 10-day recess. Why all this leisure? If postmen, teachers, and lawyers can be treated to non-statutory holidays, why. sir, cannot you or I? It seems only fair to extend the Easter holiday over the whole Dominion, and to pay at holiday rates those who must work. How long can a country in a perpetual financial crisis continue io add to its production and living costs in this fashion? —Yours, etc.. F. W. GUNZ. April 14, 1963.
