Food
Sir,—The world food dilemma was faced in miniature by Denmark during the First World War when that nation was subject to blockade. Dr. Hindheed was made Food Controller and his first measure was to wipe out most of the livestock so that the land could produce human food. He then devised a wholemeail rye flour to which was added the roughage of other grains—the coarsest flour ever devised. During that regime Denmark registered a remarkable reduction in her death-rate. The day is coming when we will be forced to realise that our economy is wrongly based, that our land is misused, and that our abattoir system is nothing but the perpetuation of what is archaic, barbaric and disease-producing. Our prosperity has a false and unspiritual basis. Actually the whole world faces Dr Hindheed’s solution, postpone it as we may.—Yours, etc, G. ROBINSON. April 14, 1963.
