Steeples At Riverton
"The Preu" Special Service DUNEDIN, April 9. The Watch, an impressive winner of the Birchwood Hazlett Memorial Steeplechase at his last start, showed that he was in top order to contest the Waiau Steeplechase at Riverton when he schooled most impressively at Wingatui this morning. Ridden by his race rider, P. J Denton, The Watch was accompanied by Sea Buoy (D. A. Canning) over a round of country at a sound pace. A winner on the flat at the Birchwood meeting. Sea Buoy is also engaged in the Waiau Steeplee. He did not jump with the same dash as his stablemate, but it was a good effort for his limited experience. ”
Elrick (T. Powell), a winner at . Riverton the last two years, worked well over five furlongs on the plough in Imin 6sec, the first two furlongs in 25sec. He is a light-weight runner in the Aparima Handicap. Tombob (C. S. Jones) was also impressive when he equalled this time, the first two furlongs in 25 2-ssec. Chattel (J. D. Pankhurst) and Great Howe (R. J. Skelton) were together in Imin 6 2-ssec. the last three furtong* in 40sec An impressive winner at Cromwell two starts back. Chattel will test the milers in the Pourakino Handicap. Grand Prix (R. Wilder) could have reduced his time Of imin 8 2-SMC. The Faux Tirage gelding is in top order for the hurdle races at the Canterbury meeting. On the inside grass. Modern Imp (R. J. Skelton) worked more impressively than her stablemate, Golden Craze (E. J. Didham). over five furlongs in Imin 5 2-ssec.
