Nuclear Project

Sir, —It seems apparent that, in the final analysis, our Institute of Nuclear Research is capable only of following the lead of overseas establishments, and constantly looking up to overseas authorities for fatherly advice and leadership. The basic objective of research is to initiate and persevere with new lines of thought and experiment in order to add to existing knowledge and accomplishments. New projects are usually initiated by progressive individuals who pioneer original lines erf research. Successful pioneers become new authorities. Generally, an established authority (Sir John Cockrott is one) can assist with advice that is already well known, but can provide a basis for further research. By advertising for assistance, our Institute of Nuclear Science could contact new authorities with new and progressive idea*.—Your*, etc, JAMES L. SADLER. March 29. 1963.
