Cycling Perils

Sir. —It would be both unfair and entirely unworkable to have a law forbidding cyclists to ride two abreast. There are already more traffic regulations than can be consistently and equitably enforced, and. on a road comparatively clear of traffic, there is no reason why cyclists should be deprived of this sociable form at progression, Where there is much traffic, however, cyclists should unquestionably consider other users of the road rather more than some of them do. Anyway, their machines are generally under control, which can hardly be said of those with a passenger somewhere on the framework. One does not want a law about that, either; only a little less complacency on the part of those who could prevent young people from taking such stupid and unnecessary risks.—Yours, etc, I LAM. March 29. 1963.
