SUPPORT FOR MARCH
Trades Council To Be Represented Mr L. C. J. Southon, secretary of the Tramways Workers’ Union, has been appointed a representative of the Canterbury district trade council of the Federation of Labour in the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament march from Paraparaumu to Wellington at Easter. The trades council at its monthly meeting passed a resolution supporting the CN.D. march and its objectives. The executive also carried a motion that the singer, Paul Robeson, be sent a message erf congratulations on attaining his sixty-fifth .birthday on April 9. Support for the demonstrations by British Workers against unemployment was expressed by the council. The resolution is to be conveyed to Mr Harold Wilson, leader of the British Labour Party The council also expressed! support for the French miners in their “continued struggle to improve wages and conditions of work.” The F.O.L. national council's report on the OtagoSoUthland Freezing Workers’ Union dispute was approved The trades council also , approved the F.O.L. decision to protect the interests-of any worker “black listed or Victimised" by employers whene a case bad been deferred to the F.O.L. by an affiliated union.
