Lyttelton Cemetery
Sir,— May a foreigner write a letter to you? During my stay at Lyttelton for about two weeks I found the inhahitanto very friendly-and polite. They enjoy a high living standard. X nave seen the nice, painted houses, so many can, the cultivated gardens, the good clothing. The more I was astonished, when X Visited the cemetery, by its neglected appearance—broken borders and glasses, withered flowers, rubbish and weeds. I think most have reverence, gratitude and love for the deceased members of their families. Should not a cemetery give testimony of these sentiments?—Yours, etc., B. February 27, 1963. [The Town Clerk of Lyttelton (Mr J. Thompson) said has council had no comment to make.] t .
