CENTENARY OF N.Z. RAILWAYS
Society To Meet In Christchurch
The annual meeting of the Railway and Locomotive Society will be held in Christchurch during the Labour Day week-end. To mark this occasion, and also the centenary of New Zealand’s railways, outings have been organised for members by the Canterbury branch of the society.
On Saturday morning a bus will take members to Ferrymead, where they will examine the sidings of the first railway in New Zealand. On Saturday afternoon members will go to Lyttelton in a 92-year-old F-type Peveril engine.
A 60-year-old, W.F.-type, Hope engine will be Used to take members to Rakaia and back on Sunday, and on Monday a K.B. steam locomotive will pull carriages to Otira.
