CARPET FOR HONG KONG

Local Factory Gets Order

A contract to supply 6000 square yards of a special grade of Axminster carpet for the Mandarin Hotel in Hong Kong has been won by the Carpet Manufacturing Company of Riccarton. The carpet will be used for the lift lobbies and corridors of the 23-storey building and the pattern will be a gold stipple with a Chinese peace symbol outside each bedroom door. The company will also supply 27,000 square yards of hair underfelt for the whole of the hotel.

Work has already begun on the carpet, said the manager of the company (Mr D. R. Hindson) yesterday. Delivery will be made at the end of May. The company was also successful some time ago in supplying carpet for Hong Kong’s 735-room American Hotel, now owned by the Hilton organisation.
