YOUNG MAN DROWNED
Swim In Sea After Dance
A young man was drowned while swimming at North Beach in the early hours of yesterday. He was:
William Edward McDonald, eged 21, an aircraft engineer, of 278 Gloucester street His parents are Mr and Mrs T. McDonald, of Hunterville.
McDonald went swimming with a group of young persons after attending the Spencer street dance. Some of the party first entered the water near the northern end of the New Brighton car park. Later, the car was parked near Thomson Park and four men and a young woman went into the water. Some time later McDonald was found to be missing. His companions called to him and shone the car lights out over the water.
When he could not be found the police were informed and the Sumner lifeboat was called out to make a search. McDonald's body was found about 4.50 a.m.
