Appointment Of Managers ('N.ZJ’.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 15. Mr Gerald Long, aged 39, has been appointed general manager of Reuters International News Agency in succession to the late Mr Walton A. Cole. Reuters' chairman (Mr J. L. Burgess) announced the appointment after a meeting of the board of directors which also named three deputy general managers. They are Mr Doon Campbell (who carries the additional title of editor), Mr A. P. Crosse, and Mr H. S. Underhill.

The new general manager began his news career as a sub-editor and reporter at Reuters head office in London 14 yeans ago. His career has included working as a Reuters correspondent in Germany, Turkey and France.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday in St. Paul’s Cathedral, London, to Mr Cole, who died suddenly in his office on January 25.
