Council Says No To 30s

(N.Z. Press Association) HAMJUTON, Feb. 14. The Hamilton City Council last nigfht became the only municipality so far to reject a payment of 30s to ’each councfil'lor for every council or committee meeting. This sum may be paid under the Municipal Corporations Amendment Act, 1962.

Speaking against it, Mr H. H. Innes said: “We would lose our dignity for office boy wages.” Mr R. A. Griffiths said that a council seat should be accessible to the ordinary man Who might be unable to consider sitting unless he were paid.
