ROYALTY AT AIRPORT
N.A.C. Flights Affected
Five National Airways Corporation flights will be affected by the Royal arrival and departure at Christchurch airport on Saturday and Monday. Three will be delayed 15 minutes, and two advanced by 30min and 15min.
On Saturday four flights will be affected. Flight 303 from Christchurch to Dunedin, which normally leaves the airport at 10 a.m., will now leave 15 minutes later. Flight 173, from Auckland to Christchurch, will arrive at 11.5 a.m. instead of 11.35 a.m. Flight 796 rom Christchurch to Palmerston North will leave Christchurch at 11.10 a.m. instead of at 11.25 a.m. Flight 253 from Wellington to Christchurch will land at 12 20 p.m. instead of 12.5 p.m.
On Monday, only one flight will be altered. This is flight 249 from Wellington to Christchurch. The aircraft is scheduled to land at 12.55 p.m., but if it should be delayed, the aircraft will be unable to land until the Royal Boeing 707 has left for Australia. The Christchurch branch manager (Mr J. E. Davies) said yesterday that passengers on flights 303 and 796 should report to the N.A.C. air centre in Gloucester street and use coaches provided to get to toe airport, rather than travel by private car.
Mr Davies said ft was anticipated that the route to the airport would be severely congested and that parking facilities at the airport itself and in adjacent areas would be at a premium.
