CARP DIED FROM HEAT
(N.Z. Press Association) LEVIN, February 7. The hundreds of carp which litter the shores of Lake Horowhenua died of fatigue in a desperate struggle for existence in water of 83 degrees and even up to 86 or 87 degrees temperature. A member of the Horowhenua Lake Domain Board, Mr N. Thornley, said an Acclimatisation Society ranger from Palmerston North, Mr L. L. McMillan, had reported this after inspecting the fish and the lake yesterday. The large carp, the size of some of which astounds local fishermen, were the victims. They tired themselves out in feverish search for cooler spots and more oxygen.
