Melbourne Cup Worth £25,750
(NJZ. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, Feb. 7. The Melbourne Cup this year wUI be worth £25,000 and a £750 trophy—a rise of £5OOO on last year’s prize. The Victoria Racing Club announced this today, and said that stakes of other important events would also be increased. The V.R.C. chairman, Mr R. Grey Smith, said the rises were made possible by the club’s share of profits from off-course betting eonducted by the Totalizator Agency Board. The £25,000 cup stake equals the record prize for the Centenary Melbourne Cup in 1960.
