HUMES PROFIT HIGHER
Sales Also Show Rise (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) MELBOURNE, February 7. Humes Ltd., concrete and steel pipe manufacturers, reported last night that operations of the parent company have been satisfactory, with both sales and profits higher in the six months to December 31 last than in the corresponding six months of the previous year Orders on hand at December 31 (excluding the contract for the pipeline for the Murray 1 power house whch will not start until late 1963) totalled just over £4.6m. Profits in N.Z.
In the aggregate, sales and profits earned by subsidiaries for the six months ended December 31, were higher than those achieved for the corresponding period of 1961-62.
However, difficult trading conditions have continued for some Australian companies in the group, whilst Hume Industries (New Zealand), Ltd., has also experienced some falling away in demand.
Interim ordinary dividend is 7 per cent. Carlton Brewery (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, February 7. Carlton Brewery, Ltd., today declared a final dividend of 8 per cent., making an unchanged distribution for the year of 13 per cent. The dividend will be paid on March 28 to shareholders registered on February 22. The profit for the year ended December 31, 1962, was £445,999 compared with £441,535 in the previous year. The company is one of the major shareholders in Carlton and United Breweries, Ltd.
