Upset Stipulate Taken Off Plane

(New Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND, February 7.

Stipulate, the New Zealand Cup and Auckland Cup winner, w’hich was scheduled to go by air to Melbourne from Whenuapai this morning, did not make the trip. He had to be unloaded after becoming unmanageable in the aircraft just as it was on the point of taking off.

The other five horses in the flight, Clean Heart,.. Algalon, Conference, Manipulate and a yearling colt by Balloch from Ganymede, left safely. Stipulate was the first horse taken aboard. He took the steep loading ramp without any trouble but became very excited when secured in his stall and within 10 minutes had to be taken off.

After being allowed a little time to compose himself, Stipulate was given a tranquillising injection by a veterinary surgeon, Mr C D. May, who attended the horses.

Stipulate took his place in the aircraft after an interval and seemed calm enough. But just after the plane had taxied out to the runway, Stipulate again became badly unsettled and it was immediately agreed to put him off.

... But Not For Riccarton

(From Our Own Reporter) AUCKLAND. Feb. 7.

Even though Stipulate has missed his chance to race before the Queen at Flemington. Riccarton racegoers wild not see him in action at the Royal meeting next week. Stipulate’s T a k a n i n i trainer, C. M. Jillings, said tonight that he would not accept for Stipulate in the £4OOO Queen Elizabeth Handicap, the mile and a half race for which the horse was nominated at Riccarton. Acceptances for the meeting will close tomorrow.

Jillings said the horse had been badly upset and would need a let-up, although he had not been harmed. No immediate plans have been made for Stipulate.
