CEMETERY RECORDS

National Index Planned

The gathering on microfilm of all existing cemetery registers in New Zealand is being undertaken by the New Zealand Genealogical Clearing House of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. When th - City Council authorised the filming of its records last evening, the reserves committee said the church intended to compile an index of the completed work and make it available to leading research libraries and genealogical researchers.

The project was of considerable interest to the Canterbury Public Library, the committee said, for people turned to the library to try to find when their forbears came to New Zealand and something about them.
