DAIRY CATTLE SALE
Sound Demand For Springers Springing dairy heifers sold soundly in the third annual sale of autumn calvers conducted by the New Zealand Farmers’ Cooperative Association at the Addington saleyards. For cattle close to calving there was a ready demand at good prices but values fell away for heifers that were some time off profit. Quality was generally good and the majority of the entries were well-grown and forward. The offering totalled 111 head, of which 85 were sold and 26 were passed. With the exception of three Ayrshire® the entry was of Friesians. The best Friesian heifers close to calling made from £7O to £76, with one sale at £B7 for a heifer with a day-old calf. Good made from £5O to £65, medium and later calvers £4O to £49, and late calvers and backward from £35 to £39.
Three Ayrshire heifers made £5O each and a Friesian cow realised £44
Eighteen-months-bkl Friesian heifers made from £24 10s tn £26 IQs and Friesian heifer calves £l3 15s to £l6.
The top price of £B7 was paid tn the Templeton Hospital Farm. G. A. Inch (Oxford) sold two heifers at £76 and £7O and a sale at £7O was also made by B J. Johns (Culverden). All were Friesians.
