Youth Cleared Of Charges (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright) LONDON, January 21. A 18-year-old youth was today found not guilty of the manslaughter of George Ivor Brinham, aged 45, chairman of the British Labour Party from 1959 to 1960. The youth, Laurence Thomas Somers, had pleaded not guilty to murdering Bninham. who was found dead with head injuries in his London flat last November. The Judge today directed an Old Bailey jury to ignore a charge of murder. “The statement of the lad hows quite clearly that this man attempted to make homosexual advances and that in consequence Somers picked up a decanter and hit him on the head. *1 should think that is •boot as dear a case of provocation M it a possible to have.” Somers was discharged.
